THE REQUIREMENTS Security was of prime importance due to the high-value materials stored within the building. At the design stage, the Secured by Design standard had been requested, yet the certification to a wide range of LPS1175 ratings allowed the selection of a much higher performance product.
As the only barrier between the variable external temperature and weather conditions, and the required controlled environment within, high-performance thermal insulation was selected. The hurricane wind-load rating of the door, even at these sizes, provided reassurance.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS A challenge associated with any large industrial door can be the heat loss when the door is opened. To mitigate against this, an inverter drive motor was selected to ensure the door opened and closed as quickly as possible. Full safety on close was provided to allow the door to be linked to other building control systems, ensuring successful integration into the operating processes of the company. Auto-locking ensured the door was secure every time it was closed, without the need for an additional locking process.
